| When the crown portion of a tooth fractures, there may not be adequate clinical crown height remaining for placement of a metal or porcelain crown on the tooth. Removal of some alveolar bone surrounding the tooth will be necessary to provide the restorative dentist adequate clinical crown height for proper retention of the metal or porcelain crown. A crown lengthening procedure may also be necessary when tooth decay is near the root of the tooth. | |||||||||||||||||||
